Mugshot art
“Most Wanted”
This print series, aptly named "Most Wanted," first produced by Louis Sidoli as hand screen-prints in 2009, were derived from over 20 authentic police mugshots of renowned 20th-century figures juxtaposed against their encounters with the law. By utilizing this unlikely source material, the artist skillfully explored the paradoxes of fame, notoriety, and the human experience.
Published print editions:
They swiftly soared to success as a highly sought-after published print editions by Washington Green Fine Art in 2010, with many thousands of editions finding homes across the globe. They managed to captivate not only art collectors, but also elicited a fascination with a much broader audience of cultural enthusiasts.
Inspiration :
The inspiration for the “Most Wanted” series came from a series of early silkscreen portraits made by Andy Warhol: In 1964 he was commissioned to produce a large mural to decorate the facade of the New York State Pavillion at the 1964 New York World Fair. For the project, Warhol used the mugshot photographs of thirteen men wanted by the NYPD featured in a brochure called ‘Thirteen Most Wanted’.
